1. Central Texas RIMS Scholarship Program (Deadline: May 1)

Each year the Central Texas Risk and Insurance Management Society offers two $1,000 cash scholarships to students from local colleges and universities.  The deadline for this scholarship is May 1. Applicants must be a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student.  Criteria for selection include a good GPA, risk management or insurance courses, work experience, and membership or participation in related professional organizations (e.g., Gamma Iota Sigma).

4. Insurance Council of Texas (Deadline: October 15)

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT), Austin, Texas, a trade association of property and casualty insurers writing business in Texas, has established a scholarship program to encourage business students at Baylor University to study risk management and insurance (RMI). (For more information about ICT, see their web site at http://insurancecouncil.org.)

ICT will offer $2,000 scholarships each year for five students who are either enrolled in RMI 3305 (Principles of Risk Management and Insurance) or students who have completed RMI 3305 and who are enrolled in any 4000 level RMI course. To be eligible for any ICT scholarship, a student must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 at the beginning of the semester in which the scholarship is awarded or be highly recommended by their professor. Generally, all scholarships will be awarded during the fall semester. However, if a sufficient number of qualified candidates cannot be identified to receive scholarships during the fall semester, funds may be carried over and awarded during the spring semester.

Eligible students can expect to be notified by no later than October 1. Scholarship applications from eligible students must include 1) an academic transcript (an "unofficial" copy obtained directly from the registrar's office or online using Bearweb will suffice), 2) a copy of the applicant's resume, and 3) a letter from the applicant to ICT explaining his/her career plans and why he/she feels deserving of an ICT scholarship. The deadline for submitting completed applications is October 15. Applications should be submitted by this date to Ms. Peggy Davies (Office: HSB 344, phone: 710-4774, email: peggy_davies@baylor.edu).

Scholarship recipients will be notified by the ICT by no later than November 15. ICT will then issue a news release accompanied by pictures of each of the scholarship recipients. In addition, ICT will publish a separate news release about the Scholarship Program and include a picture of all of the recipients.

5. NAPSLO Summer Internship Program (Deadline: December 1)

National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices, Ltd. (NAPSLO) offers summer internships for qualified college juniors and seniors interested in an insurance career. Many Interns find they enjoy the excitement of the unique surplus lines/specialty market, and the NAPSLO experience and networking opportunities make it easy for them to find employment in this specialized segment of the insurance industry. Many former interns who have participated in this program are currently employed in the insurance industry, and nearly 40% have a found a career in this unique market segment.

Selected interns will spend four weeks with a wholesale broker/general agent and five weeks with a surplus lines/specialty insurance company. NAPSLO will provide transportation to and from the host locations, pay housing costs, as well as pay each intern a stipend. The host firm also provides a competitive salary. Depending on performance, one intern will be selected to receive a three week internship the following summer with a Lloyd's of London broker, in London, England.

Students can download the application to send to NAPSLO. The deadline to submit completed application, current resume, college transcript, and two letters of recommendation is December 1 each year.

6. Spencer Educational Foundation Scholarship Program (Deadline: January 31)

8. NAIW Education Foundation College Scholarship (Deadline: March 1)

The National Association of Insurance Women International Education Foundation is accepting college scholarship applications.  These scholarships are available to all students majoring or minoring in risk management and insurance who are completing their sophomore year or higher.  The application deadline is March 1, and scholarships are awarded in June. 9. Central Texas CPCU Society Scholarship Program (Deadline: March 27)

The Central Texas Chapter of the CPCU Society is pleased to announce the availability of three scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each for local college and university students who are majoring or minoring (a "concentration") in insurance, risk management or actuarial science. Founded in 1944, The Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU) Society is a community of credentialed property and casualty insurance professionals who promote excellence through ethical behavior and continuing education. The CPCU Society's mission is to "meet the career development needs of a diverse membership of professionals who have earned the CPCU designation, so that they may serve others in a competent and ethical manner."

Candidates for the scholarships must meet the all of the following requirements:

1. Is presently a candidate for a bachelor's or higher degree with a major or minor (a "concentration") in insurance, risk management, or actuarial science.
2. Is currently attending a central Texas college or university and will be completing or have completed his/her second year.
3. Has successfully completed a course in insurance, actuarial science, or risk management, or industry certificate-oriented or designation-oriented course such as CPCU 510.
4. Currently has a grade point of at least 3.0 (on an overall 4.0 scale).
5. Is presently NOT receiving full reimbursement for the expense of tuition, books, testing fees, from an employer or any other outside source.

Scholarship recipients will be notified directly of their award. Awards will be presented at the Chapter's April Luncheon in Austin, Texas.

10. Heart of Texas CPCU Scholarship Program (Deadline: March 27)

The Heart of Texas Chapter of the CPCU Society is pleased to announce the availability of a $250 scholarship. Click here for a copy of the application form. 11. Self-Insurance Educational Foundation Scholarship Program (Deadline: April 30)

The Self-Insurance Educational Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to promoting a greater awareness and understanding of self-insurance and alternative risk transfer. Additional information about SIEF may be accessed at www.siefonline.org.

SIEF’s scholarship program is for undergraduate students who are considering pursuing a career in the self-insurance/insurance or risk management industry or allied professions. SIEF will be awarding scholarships in the amount of $3,500 to four qualified students. In order to qualify, you must currently have a cumulative GPA of not less than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be a full-time student (12 hours or more).

12. Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Insurance Scholarships (Deadline: June 1)
