Having problems downloading files from the RMI 4320 Website?

So you're having trouble downloading, eh?  Well, try these tricks and see if it helps.  If not, drop by my office hours (or make an appointment) and I'll see if I can help further.

  1. First, save the file by right-clicking on the link to the file you want.
    • In the resulting dialog box, choose "Save link as..."
    • Pick a directory in which to save the file; perhaps type in the "filename" box a:myfilename.ext where "a:" refers to a floppy disk you put in the drive, "myfilename" is a descriptive name of the file, and ".ext" refers to the file type -- such as .pdf, .doc, or .xls to name a few
    • Then, using typical procedures, open the file with the appropriate program, such as WordPerfect, Acrobat Reader, or Excel.
  2. Still not working?
    • Make sure you are using the correct program to open the file.  E.g., if you try to open a WordPerfect file using Excel, it may not work correctly.
    • Look at the file extension...
      • *.pdf means use Adobe Acrobat
      • *.doc means use MS Word
      • *.xls means use Excel
    • Make sure you have the correct program on your computer!  If you don't have Excel on your computer, you will run into difficulty trying to open Excel files.  Same is true for Acrobat Reader and the others.
    • Make sure that you have an up-to-date version of the program.   If not, try a computer in one of the computer labs that has recent versions of these programs.  This is particularly true of the PDF files.
  3. Need to download Acrobat Reader?
    • It's free; click here for directions on how to download the newest version of Acrobat Reader.
  4. Still not working?
    • If you have tried all of the above and still can't get it to work, come to my office hours or make an appointment and I'll be glad to help you.
